Committee on Mediterranean Forestry Questions-Silva Mediterranea meets in Antalya, Turkey for the planning of the seventh Mediterranean Forest Week that will take place in March 2022.
The Organising Committee (OC) members held a two-day physical meeting on Thrusday, 9 and Friday, 10 December 2021 at the Regional Directorate of Forestry of Antalya, Turkey. On the afternoon of the second day, additional members joined through hybrid modality. The OC3 was hosted by the General Directorate of Forestry (OGM) of Turkey. The Secretariat of Silva Mediterranea, the Chairperson of Silva Mediterranea, Chadi Mohanna, and members of the International Association for Mediterranean Forests (AIFM) were present to discuss the details on the upcoming fora on Mediterranean forestry questions.
Focusing on the overall organization of the seventh Mediterranean Forest Week, the OC members determined the logistics and visited the venue (Limak Limra Hotel & Resort), which is fully equipped and has different facilities, offering large spaces in order to maintain social distancing etiquette. The hotel has a specific convention infrastructure with several dedicated meeting rooms for plenary sessions and modular rooms for smaller groups. Each conference room is equipped by specific boxes for interpreters. Dedicated spaces for posters’ vision are also present.
The venue is also the recommended hotel for accommodation for seventh MFW participants. It has available more than 600 rooms for accommodation ranging from different prizes, which also include access to breakfast and dinners (see the accommodation tab for more information on the prizes).
The OC members fixed the registration fees for the standard full week but also for participants who will only be present for one day. Reduced rates were assigned for participants from Middle East and North Africa (MENA) countries and for students. Companion rates were also considered, for those traveling with families or friends. See the Online registration tab for more information on rates. Registration will be open until March 20th 2022.
In addition, the programme was agreed upon, fitting key technical sessions and side events to offer a rich exchange for participants. The call for posters was as well agreed upon. It is addressed to Mediterranean youth (from 18 to 35 years old) who are either students, young professionals or entrepreneurs in the forestry sector in the region. See the call for posters and disseminate widely with your network!
The OC members also visited potential locations for the fieldtrip, which is scheduled to take place on the third day of the seventh Mediterranean Forest Week. A preview can be appreciated through the photos below.
